Ginbuck, the Conductor who led the battle of the Catacombs, is dead. Belle goes to pay her respects, where she is reunited with some friends from the lower city, and together, they pass the night drinking, playing Schwertmusik, and talking of love. Meanwhile, having given himself over to the Dearth March, Adonis assaults the palace in possession of the incredibly powerful—yet lethally poisonous—medicine, trial ashes. But as he confronts the king, Belle appears before him…this time as an enemy.
